Steve Shirley, PA-C, specializes in general cardiology and chose to be a heart specialist to help people improve their health. "Cardiology is about helping people live longer and live better," Shirley said. "I enjoy the science and mechanisms in cardiology and I love the talks with my patients as we come up with a plan together."
Shirley decided to pursue medicine after experiencing life-changing events involving heart disease and his family. He gained personal insight from the experience and learned about the importance of trust with a medical provider. "I want to help people weigh the evidence and what works for them," Shirley said.
When it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, Shirley said, "Every visit is a snapshot of your health, which gives us options. Let's look at the facts and decide."
Shirley earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992 and a Bachelor of Science in cell and molecular biology from Northeastern State University at Broken Arrow in 2018. He then went on to graduate in 2021 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center at Oklahoma City with a Master of Health Sciences in physician assistant studies.
Shirley owned his own small business with his wife for more than 15 years before entering medicine. He is a member of The American College of Cardiology and The American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Outside of working at Oklahoma Heart Institute, Shirley enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and their dogs.
