Michelle Bauhaus, APRN-CNP, works as a nurse practitioner with the pulmonary embolism response team (PERT) at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI). PE response teams respond to serious pulmonary embolism patients, offer a quick evaluation and then formulate a treatment plan. The team's quick response can significantly improve a patient's survival rate.
Michelle, who has gained years of experience as an ICU nurse in local hospitals, began working at OHI in April of 2017. "I fell in love with cardiology when I was a clinic nurse here at OHI. I also have firsthand knowledge of thromboembolisms and feel I can relate to patients on both a professional and personal level," she said.
Now after years of experience, Michelle's main goal is to treat the whole person. She says, "I want my patients to know they aren't alone and to build a trusting relationship, so they feel empowered to take an active role in their own health care." She does this by discussing personal health goals and encouraging patients to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle to achieve the goals. "I discuss the added health benefits of pursuing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as it can be a primary treatment for disease process like high cholesterol and hypertension."
Michelle graduated from Maryville University with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN) degree in 2021 and a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa (OU-Tulsa) in 2016. She also earned a bachelor's degree in business in 2010 from Northeastern State University (NSU).
When not working, Michelle can be found outside hiking, fishing and running. She also loves to watch her son play sports and to spend time with family.
